Sorry for the trouble you're having! First, please update to MOD Mobile 1.5, which should be available in the App Store. Then, when you transfer your courses over, please make sure to transfer the file called "chapters" for each course. If you continue to have trouble, please contact us at techsupport@leapingbrain.com. Thanks! Grace Fioravanti Leaping Brain Labs |

I just wanted to post here with a question, and also to thank everyone for their patience and support while we near completion of the 3.0 version of the MOD Mobile app for iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch.
First, the question: Does anyone here have an Apple TV? If so, have you tried watching your Homespun lessons on your TV wirelessly just by tapping the AirPlay icon in the MOD Mobile app? It works amazingly well and the quality is great! And, no cables! It's
pretty cool to use your iPhone for a little "remote control" for a 55" LCD!
Also, about the next version of the app, it is getting very close, we put tons of work and loving care into everything do and so things take longer than we want, but I think all your wishes will come true with this new version!
So thanks for all your 5 star ratings in the App Store, and we feel this app is just going to get better and better. |

Sorry about that! From your last post, I thought you were requesting for a link to the iOS app.
We are still working on an Android version, but unfortunately do not have a timeline yet.

Let me make myself clear I do not own an Apple product. I not going to purchase an Apple product.
I own a 10" Toshiba Thrive that I am happy with. I am not going to go thru a list of pro and cons as to why I prefer it to IPad's , etc. As far I know I cannot download an app that will work on my device or any other Android device.
Any solutions to this would be accepted with open arms.
Thanks

I love the app. I have an android phone and got tired of waiting for that version. So I bought a used iPod and got this app. Love it!!! Picture is better than on my Netbook version. Now I can take my lessons with me on the go. Lunch breaks at work I can learn a banjo lick. I can take it on my cruise in February. Thanks Leaping Brain for your great products, and Happy for the best acoustic instrument lessons on the market today and yesterday. Best wishes! |

To ChipOffTheOldBlock (and others):
An update has been released for MOD Mobile (our transfer app to iPad/iPod etc. that allows the chapters to play sequentially. According to Josh at Leaping Brain, proper chapter names and other enhancements will be coming soon. Aside from these things, the app works very smoothly.
Thanks for your input.

This is great, being able to put the Lessons on the iPad! Thanks for doing this!
It works very well, but I have some requests, I would like (as already been said) the chapters to keep playing one after another, and also the chapter names on the list.
In terms of the $1.99 price, I can tell you what I did, since I already saved $5 on the download over the DVD, I spent $1.99 of this savings on the mobile app, then I gave the other $3 to the homeless guy who lives next to where I work. And I still saved shipping fees! |

Hi Happy (and LB) ...
I solved my own problem about some titles not being available for transfer ... Another case of basic "pilot error." I have not downloaded some of my purchased lessons to my new computer. Naturally, these are not available for transfer.
I apologize for wasting your time.

Hello all,
I am writing you from Leaping Brain Labs, the company that Homespun chose to build Homespun Instant Access, the software that delivers the excellent Homespun library of video music lessons via the internet.
I appreciate your feedback very much and want to stress that if you ever have any problems or questions with Homespun Instant Access, we are always here to help. For the fastest answer to your question, try the Help Center first, it's the button in the top right area of your Homespun Instant Access catalog. If you don't get an instant answer, contact our customer support team directly by filling out the form here:
http://leapingbrain.com/contact-customer-support/ or emailing techsupport@leapingbrain.com.
We have worked very hard for over a year to make it possible for you to move your purchased Homespun titles to an iOS device like an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. To make a very long story short, despite many many efforts and attempts, we had an extremely difficult time getting any media app approved by Apple. But they did approve the $1.99 MOD Mobile system, which consisted of a free desktop app and a $1.99 iOS app, and I can't tell you how relieved and happy we are about that, and now that we made that system compatible with Homespun Instant Access, a solution exists.
The $1.99 goes towards development of the iOS app, both past and future, as well as customer support of this new iOS functionality. We consider the app still in "beta" for now, there are many features we will add to the app in the future, starting with chapter names, re-orientation (in some cases it is upside-down), looping buttons and more levels of slo-mo.
We would be grateful for any feedback you might have, feature suggestions, kudos or complaints, they are all valuable!
Thanks,
Josh |

Oh my God! I'm tired! I think I'll leave this discussion ... It is obvious that $ 2 is nothing. Nobody is talking about it. I have already purchased this App for a long time and I'm already using. This is not the value of the App. It's about ethics. The LB should not put this application on the market before handing over the application of Homespun. Did you understood, or should I draw?

Considering the fact that you have already invested a tidy some for an IPad and the downloads I think that $2 for the cost of an app is peanuts.
I would gladly pay $2 for an app that would work with my Toshiba Thrive which uses Android.

Folks, come on, we're talking 2 bucks here....if you have one of these devices, something tells me 2 bucks can be spared. I know it's the principle, and it would be nice if it were free, but so it goes.
In terms of trying to improve the program two other suggestions after enjoying the app on the metro today:
1. at least on my device (ipod touch) you can't click between chapters, i.e. go to the next one, without going back to the main menu. This seems like a bug as the control for going to the next chapter is there....
2. the chapters on my media are just called chapter 1, 2, 3 etc. This would be much more helpful if they also had the name of the chapter from the actual media product, i.e. Chapter 1. Introduction to Flat Picking etc.
Just some thoughts

I agree with Dr Franco. The LB should not have released the Mod Mobile App without having solved the Homespun Instant Access for iPad/Phone/Pod. In my opinion wasn't unethical. But the Happy, as we know, is a good person and tolerant.

As an update: I've gotten everything working, although I think LB still has some work to do; it took about 15 tries of restarting the MOD app, and it kept say "0 out of 3" transferring, and then when I checked the "Watch" screen...they were all there....which is what's important! Now onto the metro to watch some Homespun! |

Hi Happy and all,
Thanks for the various posts clarifying the process of syncing. Like many things, it's easy once you know how! I think this would work much smoother if Laughing Brain were to put a quick step by step description at the start screen of the app. I had to come back to this forum, and your helpful instructions, several times before I figured it out.
Also, I'm not sure about anyone else, but I'm not able to get this to actually work...it keeps saying unable to connect to the device...I'm contacting tech support, but thought you'd like to know. Best,
David |

Happy,
I appreciate your answer. You are a kind man. It is certainly not about the money. And it is not about your company either. I am not sure why Leaping Brain is taking so long on developing the ipad version of the Home Spun Instant Access Application. I am very pleased with the videos I have purchased from Homespun. I guess, I'll do some thinking and decide about buying the application or not. Again, thanks for your offer but I can not accept it (as your company is not the problem).

Franco

Thank you ... Worked perfectly. The lessons are playing beautifully.
I noticed when I was transferring that some of my lessons showed as transferable but some seemed to be shaded as untransferable. Is that correct?

Hi Franco,
This small charge does not go to Homespun but to Leaping Brain, to help them recoup some of their very big expenses in developing their app. (In reality it won't make much of a dent, but it will help a little.) We all figured that this would be do-able for most folks at about half the cost of a Starbucks coffee.
If you feel that this is too onerous a charge to pay, get in touch with us and we'll make some arrangement for you to recoup it. Meanwhile, I hope you are enjoying your Homespun downloads.

The process is MUCH easier than that. Sorry for the confusion!
Take a look at my other post in this Forum which gives instructions on how to move the files from your computer to your device. You access it from the "Options" button on your Homespun Instant Access player/catalog.
Take a look and let me know if this makes sense.

Hi Happy ...
As always, thanks for all your efforts.
So far ... not so good ... a few observations.
First, you can get the iPad App from the App store ... which is great, but you cannot get the desktop App from the Mac Appstore, you need to get it by typing modmobile.info in your browser address bar ... which works ... but is a little confusing. Also, on that page, you cannot "right click" on a one-button Mac mouse ... most folks will know to control+click but the instructions page should probably be clear.
On to the REAL problem ... I was able to download the desktop App and the iPad app. However, in order to copy over to the iPad, you need to drag the files from your the Finder in Mac OS X into the box in the MOD app ... That's seems clear until you realize that you have no idea where the files are! Simply going to documents and finding the Homespun folder only leads you to the PDF files that go with the lesson.
If the instructions could tell you how to find the MOD files on your machine (and maybe it is me ... but I have not been able to do so yet), then my guess is the transfer would go smoothly ... but I don't know.
SO CLOSE ... AND YET SO FAR! |

Happy,
I just checked and it is 1.99 to install it. I had imagined it was a free application. So far I have bought 5 videos at an average of 20 dollars each= 100 bucks. Isn't that enough money to pay already? I hope there is a homespun free app!

There is now a way to transfer your Homespun Instant Access videos to an iOS device (iPod, iPad, etc.) But it's not ready for Android yet. The folks at Leaping Brain are working on that.
First, download the MOD Mobile app from iTunes (on your computer) or your mobile app store. Then, go to the Options pull-down and choose "Copy Media to iOS Device." Once it's copied over you'll be able to view the lesson in very high quality on your portable player.
Let us know how it works. Please be aware that this is Still being developed and that enhancements will be added in the coming weeks. I hope you enjoy it.

Dear Happy,
I did not understand. What iPad and iPhone has to do with the new Lion?! The new OS is only used in Apple notebooks and desktops. IPad does not use Lion OS.
Tell the Leaping boys if they take a little longer, Apple has already released a new OS...

As of a day or two ago, the app is in its final testing stages. It seems it was slightly delayed by the release of Apple's Lion OS, since things then had to be emended to accommodate that.
Hopefully, we'll be able to announce this in the near future. Thanks for your patience.

Hi,
I am really looking forward to viewing my lessons on my iPad... the application can't get here soon enough for me as I was hoping app support would be available last winter...
Hopefully Leaping Brain is also close to delivering their "speed change pitch shift corrector" capability so we can properly play lesson content at a slower speed at the right pitch... I used several different applications like this for some of my music learning content (other than Homespun lessons) and this is a very effective learning tool.
I subscribe to several different music, art and multimedia training or learning services that already support iPad and iPhone etc. and having both mobile device and PC/Mac support is the most effective manner for me personally to really immerse in learning sessions with effective results.
I have been a Homespun Tapes supporter and lesson taker for many years going back to Happy's very first cassette tapes and now with instant access streaming video and the better technology, I find that Homespun lessons --- tho always really good --- are now really optimized to deliver student learning --- much more than ever before...
Kudos to Happy, his team, and the fantastic group of professional teachers who have delivered really incredible music aids, a wealth of knowledge, and motivation from some of the best musicians in the world today...
Thanks for your efforts and as someone with a music degree who also works today in designing "on demand" training content and who is focused to be life long learner of quality capabilities, I think Homespun is truly a great model for others to emulate.
The Homespun tradition of supporting and inspiring folks to build their music chops and have fun with their music at a very high level with cost effective content/ services is second to none in the music industry... and the support of the mobile devices by Homespun will connect them to an even bigger audience reach --- hopefully resulting in continued high quality content delivery...

I got to be honest Happy, I received the Castiv guitar sidekick for as a birthday gift last August. At first I thought it would look ugly, and geeky hanging off my guitar. I thought 'that ant no part of nuthin' and I threw it in my junk drawer. A month ago I decided to get the Guitar toolkit app and 4 track recording app for my itouch and I liked them. So I figured what the 'heck' I'd break out the Castiv itouch holder and try it out. I am a convert now. love it. I now have gotten rid of the tuner, metronome, and mini recorder accessories, and have essentially added all those plus my whole library of tunes, plus the resources of the world wide web, all in one device hanging at the end of my guitar. I guess the only thing missing is Skype or video recording. Way cool. Technology is just advancing by leaps and bounds.

That's a great post, Mark. It's always interesting to hear how people access their learning materials, and obviously it's changing all the time. I love the idea of attaching a little mobile device to the headstock of your guitar!
We're moving ahead as fast as possible with our iPad/iPod app, but we can only go as fast as Apple allows. Meanwhile, we're about to add many of our audio CD/books to our download program, and those will be readily available to access from any device as they won't be locked with the same protection as the DVDs. Look for these to start appearing in our Homespun Instant Access catalog the next few weeks.

I can't wait for this app to get finalized. I use a Captiva itouch/iphone holder clipped right behind the nut on my guitar. I think Dunlop makes a smartphone holder too that affixes itself to the top of the guitar. I access all my homespun CD's and other learning mp3's instantly. I also use youtube a lot to learn songs and see how other people play the same stuff I like. It is a great way to practice and with the four track app I can instantly record myself. The only thing missing is my homespun videos. Granted I can see bits of your stuff via youtube but I want the whole DVD's on my itouch. That will be so cool. It is nice to be learning and not stuck in front of a desk, music stand or video monitor. All my learning tools have become so much more portable.
I am not endorsing itouch or the smart phone holders. I dont work for them but I have to say, that with the homespun products are a wicked good team.

Many Homespun customers have asked about using our Instant Access downloads on mobile devices such as iPads and iPhones. Our partners at Leaping Brain Labs, who developed the MOD Machine that powers our catalog/player, have been hard at work and are in the final testing stages of an app that can transfer lessons from your computer to one of these devices. They will then submit their app to Apple for approval, which may take a few weeks. We're hoping to have this ready sometime in February, but don't hold us (or them) to a hard time frame, since we'll be somewhat dependent on Apple's timetable.
When it does arrive it'll be terrific and we're all waiting for it. Please be patient. We'll send out an announcement the minute it's ready.
Musically yours,
Happy Traum
