Fingerpicking is one of the most sought-after, intriguing and challenging of all acoustic guitar techniques. With your thumb providing the steady bass and fingers syncopating the treble notes, this sound never fails to delight players and listeners alike.
David Hamburger focuses on two essential fingerstyle approaches: alternating-bass “Travis” picking and steady-bass blues style. This carefully thought-out and expertly taught method starts at the most basic level, then progresses, lesson-by-lesson, as powerful new techniques - blues scales, walking bass lines, chord substitutions, double stops, moves up the neck and lots more - are added.
Each concept is followed up with a classic song or instrumental from the blues, country, folk and ragtime traditions: John Henry, Since I’ve Laid My Burden Down, Delia, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, Houston Blues, Down in Navasota, Alberta, St. James Infirmary, St. Louis Blues, The Uptown Lowdown, Rag Mama, Hazleton, St. Louis Blues and Battle Hymn of the Republic.
These DVDs are based on David’s popular book from the publishers of Acoustic Guitar magazine.
