Jack DeJohnette is an innovative and many faceted drummer, multi- instrumentalist, composer, producer and band leader. Devoted to musical exploration for the past 35 years, he first rose to prominence in the mid-60s with the Charles Lloyd Quartet, followed by three years with Miles Davis (including the Grammy-winning album, Bitches Brew). Jack has worked with many of the most influential musicians of our time -- Bill Evans, John Coltrane, John Abercrombie, Freddie Hubbard, Hubert Laws, Michael Brecker, John Scofield, Dave Holland and Pat Metheny -- among countless others. His own band of adventurous young jazz players, Special Edition, demonstrated his free-flowing interest in musical diversity as does his current work with Keith Jarrett's Standards Trio, Bobby McFerrin and Gary Peacock.

Jack has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music, along with an extensive list of awards for drumming, including at least 14 years of the Downbeat polls. Jack has recorded as a leader on Columbia , Landmark, MCA/GRP, and Toshiba/EMI/Blue Note, but the bulk of his recordings are on the ECM label. Recent CDs for his own Golden Beams Productions include “Music in the Key of Om" and duets with percussionist Don Alias, “Welcome Blessing.”
