The only thing I can suggest is that you update your Flash Player. We've had occasional problems with certain clips, but for the most part they seem to be working fine. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help. If others are having the same problem we'd like to hear from you.

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

Happy: The 'quick licks' are great and bring me to your site a little more frequently than usual (which was pretty frequent). The Brownie DVD, long awaited, has helped me REALLY play songs I have been trying to play for almost 50 years. I don't know what the 'mini-lessons' you refer to are. I also now have a problem playing excerpts from the material on the site; I used to have no problem (except for the 'quick licks' I just get no image or sound and I think I have every player known to man on my computer). Any thoughts?

Jim Clarkson
Manila, Philippines

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

Honestly, I hadn't looked at them until just now because I have come to expect the Homespun video samples to be teeny tiny little bits in the corner and my eyes don't really enjoy them that much. I've just watched the Aaron Gilmartin video there and actually it was big and useful. Makes me want to buy that DVD where I hadn't thought of it before.

I guess what I'd say about that is that we have our expectations and make decisions about whether to 'click' on them based on those expectations. I expected the smaller, long time loading videos and so didn't click on them. So if there is a slow response to them that would be a good reason for it, IMHO.

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

yes i really liked the joy to the world lesson. it's helpful to watch how happy constructs a song arrangement using the simple G scale. it's a pretty melody. i love xmas songs!

i have ordered several of happy's lessons for xmas, happy's gospel dvds and the essential blues dvd, and even though i am an old picker with alot of bad habits, i am very much looking forward to his instruction, and starting the new year off with some good habits! mark

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

Thanks for the Joy to the World lesson. I've only got one dropped-D number in my repertoire, and you're showing some more ways to make good use of it in JTTW. Now if only I could find some extra hours for even more practice. I didn't see anything about switching players either, but if you use the right mouse button and click over the middle of the player it will give you that info: just for future reference.

BTW, Happy I do enjoy the quick licks and lessons. I haven't used any of it in my playing as yet, but I keep adding these things to my bag of tricks. I know some time I will use some of it and I will dazzle my listeners. I used a lick of yours from the Blues Bag one time and the guitarists in the room were asking me to teach it to them and some of them are pros. So keep adding these tips to what I play and you make me look sooooo gooooooooood.

Thanks for all you do.

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

Thanks, Warren, that did the trick!! The clips used to be in Windows Media player format, but now I beleive it's Flash.

Here is the link:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=DXLUJ

Be sure to uncheck the Google toolbar option unless you want more clutter on your internet browser..

Good Luck,

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

Happy, BTW, has Homespun changed the format it uses for things like the quick lessons and lesson samples? Used to, I could clikck on a lesson sample and it would play the whole thing seamlessly. Nowadays, it'll play a little, stop, download some more, play a little, stop, download, play some more, etc., ad infinitum. This happens on both my laptop and home pc. I haven't changed any of the video settings on them so I was wondering if Homespun had changed something and I need to make a similar change on my computers? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Bert

RE: QuickLicks and Mini-Lessons

Really like the quick lick lessons. (I've added a new one to the website today!) They can be found either in the NEWS & UPDATES section or in the video player to the right side of the screen. (You can scroll down to see several clips there.)

I wonder whether you're using them and have found them helpful. I plan on doing many more of these, and have several "in the can." These will not only be for guitar (although most of our customers are guitar players) but we'll also have some mandolin, banjo, fiddle and other instruments represented as well.

So let me know if these have been helpful, and what you'd like to see in the future. I hope these will spur some enthusiasm and keep you coming back to check on what's new here on the Homespun site. Keep your feedback coming! Thanks!!!
