Hi All,

I'm going to be teaching a week-long session at Guitar Intensives in the beautiful seaside town of Bar Harbor, Maine from August 9 - 15. I'll be joining other Homespun instructors Mike Dowling, Ernie Hawkins and Del Rey, along with some other guitarist/teachers. It sounds like a great time and I hope we get some of our Homespun "students" there.

The workshop's director, Alice Schilling, and I are working out my classes and if you sign up SOON we'll take your suggestions/requests into consideration. Some of the ideas so far are a class on the songs and blues style of Brownie McGhee; arrangements for Bob Dylan songs; how to create easy but distinctive arrangements; basic music theory for guitar; and fingerpicking for beginners. I'll be choosing my topics in the next couple of weeks, so if you're thinking of signing up, do it now and add your voice to the list.

This sounds like it will be a fabulous combination of intensive guitar studies and vacation, since the venue (a lovely college campus) is very close to Acadia National Park and lots of great tourist sites along the Maine Coast. I hope to see you there.

Alice tells me my workshops are filling up fast, so sign up soon!

Musically yours,

Happy

I am in!  I live not too far from there and am e-mailing Alice about being a part of it for just 1 day (work conflicts, but...).

Acoustic Blues?

Fingerstyle?

Brownie material?

Dylan material?

Happy:  your own recordings???

I'l take any.   Maine is beautiful in the summer and this will be special, though I think my 8 year old, who has seen so many of your DVDs, will pass out when she meets you.  She is quite a fan!

Actually, the way the program works is that classes are from Monday through Friday.   So, for example, if Happy taught a class on Brownee McGee. it would run during the same timeslot in the schedule each of those days.

Almost all of the students register full-time, but we do have some local folks who end up registering for one or two classes, and participate on a part-time basis throughout the course of the entire week.

That way, we end up allowing for those students but also assuring   continuity in class composition to enhance instruction.

As long as I'm posting, I want to say how EXCITED everyone is that Happy's going to be joining us this summer -- including Del, Ernie and Mike!

Alice

I'm looking forward to lessons with the live version of Happy Traum as opposed to the play, rewind, slow motion version that I've become accustomed to. Anything you have to offer would be appreciated, really anything, but I would especially be interested in song arrangements. For example, how about a simple 3 or 4 chord travis picking song transposed into big thumb "bluesy" chord inversions in various places on the neck. "Bluesifying Travis"...... Any kind of mini workshop on blues soloing (what fret do I jump to now) would also be of interest. Looking forward.................... Kate

Happy,

has a topic been decided?

Has the class filled up?

I have sought to get the week off, but am struggling.  I have a few days, but not the whole week....still trying!  A lot here has to do with those with more senority getting first requests on various weeks.

thanks, Peter

Peter,

Alice sent out the schedule yesterday, and it is now available on the Guitar Intensives website (www.guitarintensives.com). Happy is scheduled to teach three classes: Arranging for Fingerstyle Guitar (intermediate level), Brownie McGhee (intermediate - advanced), and Building Blocks for Early Intermediates. There are also classes by Ernie Hawkins, Del Rey, and Mike Dowling, among others.

I don't know how many slots are still available, but I'm sure Alice would be very happy to fill you in on that if you send her an e-mail. (See the Guitar Intensives site for her contact info.) I attended a couple of years ago, and it was a great experience.

It will be year 2 for me & I submitted my registration earlier today.

Last year, I became enlightened by Ernie Hawkins and CAGED.

This year, my hope is to get over a few levels of issues / confusion with playing Brownie Mcghee tunes and further the steadiness of my right thumb.

Thanks, Todd.

she wrote an e-mail to me that a sign up means for the entire week, which I have not been able to secure being off completely from work; an "all or nothing" set up (she referenced that in the post here).

If I can get the full week off from work, I would very much like to be there.

thanks...Pete

is anyone here going to Guitar Intensives??

I am seriously looking forward to it...

Right now, I am not working on any specific tunes, but I am working on building up the calluses on my fingers...
