Hello Folks,
I've been playing for only 7 or 8 months. I would consider myself an advanced beginner (if there is such a thing). I know the basics of reading music, keys, chords and chord progressions and can play half a dozen songs (rhythm), but only one melody (Blackberry blossom). I'm considering getting the Tony Rice package and starting with the Tony Rice guitar method or Steve Kaufman's Learning to Flatpick (3 -dvd set). I'm 41 and like bluegrass, folk, acoustic stuff in general. Any suggestions on which would be the more appropriate purchase?

Thanks.

Tom

Steve Kaufman is an excellent teacher and has made a career out of it. I'd recommend his three DVD set, (if you're going the bluegrass route) and his first 20 parking lot songs book and CD's to start learning lots of tunes. Join the yellow pick cult.

Make sure you pick the right style of playing. I mean some of the teachers play with a flat pick and some play with their fingers.
