Fingerpicking
The term "fingerpicking" means many things to different people. We see it as the alternating thumb, two- or three-finger style personified by players as diverse as Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Watson, Merle Travis and Chet Atkins. It's a definition that's a little more specific than the more generalized "fingerstyle" label, but you can take your choice. There's a lot of overlap between them, so you'll find both definitions scattered through these two categories.
