David Schnaufer
The late National Dulcimer Champion David Schnaufer astounded audiences across the country with his superb dulcimer technique and musicianship for more than twenty years. He almost single-handedly brought the instrument back to country music, becoming Nashville’s busiest (and only) dulcimer studio musician. He can be heard on albums with The Judds, Kathy Mattea, Michael Johnson, Dan Seals, Johnny Cash, Cyndi Lauper, Mark O’Connor and many others. His flawless musicianship and virtuosity are evident on eight solo recordings, including “Dulcimer Player Deluxe,” “Tennessee Music Box” and his most recent, “Uncle Dulcimer.” His work features musical styles ranging from classical to country, jazz, folk, Celtic and rock.
David had been Adjunct Associate Professor of Dulcimer at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music. Sadly, he passed away in August, 2006 after a battle with lung cancer.
