Frank Lee
Frank Lee grew up in rural Georgia hearing fiddle and banjo music, both his grandfathers were banjo players. After playing bluegrass as a teenager, he moved to western North Carolina and started playing old time frailing styles. Since 1991 his rhythmic, percussive style has been a driving force behind the Freight Hoppers, one of the most popular string bands on the bluegrass/old time music circuit. Their appearances at festivals, dances and concerts, as well as their CDs for Rounder Records, have gained them an avid following throughout the US and abroad. The Freight Hoppers' high-energy artistry has also been captured on a performance video for Homespun, "Live at the Bearsville Barn."
