Johnnie Johnson
Johnnie Johnson and Chuck Berry toured together for 18 years. During the late 1980's and '90's, Johnnie toured with his own group. Members of the Johnson "fan club" include Keith Richards, George Thorogood, NRBQ, Al Kooper, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Vivino, and Eric Clapton, who regularly invited Johnson to join him onstage at his annual Royal Albert Hall concert.
Johnson was recognized for his contribution to Rock & Roll in the acclaimed 1988 "rockumentary," "Hail Hail Rock & Roll." He has appeared with the Rolling Stones at the invitation of Keith Richards, who suggests seriously that a monument be built to Johnson in St. Louis. He is an idol's idol. His recent albums include "Johnnie B. Bad" and "Johnnie Be Back," the latter produced by NBC Late Night guitarist Jimmy Vivino. Sadly, Johnnie passed away on April 13, 2005.
