Josh White, Jr
Josh White, Jr. has a worldwide following as a singer, actor and performer. Now in the 75th year of his performing career (he was a child star), he has appeared in over 2,000 concerts, including appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden. He is featured on innumerable recordings for Mercury, United Artists, Vanguard and Rykodisk.
After Josh White passed away in 1969, Josh Jr. performed his father's music in a biographical show that toured the country to rave reviews from 1983 - 1986. He has recorded two tribute albums to his dad, with one of them, Jazz, Ballads and Blues, was nominated for a Grammy. In 1998, Josh White, Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly and Sonny Terry were honored in Washington with the unveiling of their individual U.S. Postage Stamps (the first part of the government's Folk Artist series) followed by a concert on the National Mall by Josh, Jr., Arlo Guthrie and Toshi Reagan. Subsequently, Josh, Jr., Odetta and Ramblin' Jack toured for two years in a tribute show honoring Josh, Woody and Lead Belly.
Josh Jr. has recently become a major children's performer, appearing often on the Nickelodeon Network, and is a founding member of Storyliving, in which he instructs, sings and acts in school seminars across America. In 2014, Josh, Jr. toured America, Europe and Australia in Josh White Centennial Concerts. In 2016, upon the opening of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African-American History and Culture with a display on Josh White, they had Josh, Jr. give a series of tribute concerts on the National Mall.
