Rainer Brunn
Guitarist/singer Rainer Brunn came to our attention when Homespun owner/producer Happy Traum heard his excellent guitar playing and deep musicianship on his YouTube channel. We immediately invited him to join the Homespun family.
Rainer was born and raised in Bamberg, Germany and started playing guitar at the age of 17, when “I bought a cheap guitar and began to teach myself, finding it quite easy to learn accompaniments for the kind of music that I wanted to play at that time - the songs of Bob Dylan, Donovan, Simon and Garfunkel and other folk stuff.”
At the age of 22 he met his first teacher, Kurt Hiesl, and studied classical guitar with him at the Meistersinger Konservatorium in Nuremberg. “This study allowed me to make my living as a guitar teacher at the urban music school and Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg.” He also did private studies with the renowned Italian composer and guitarist,Carlo Domeniconi.
After being given a compilation of old blues recordings, “the seed was planted” and Rainer developed a deep passion for early American blues guitar styles. He played in several folk, blues and bluegrass bands, but for the past 20 years he has been concentrating exclusively on country blues and other American roots guitar styles. He has done shows with German fellow-picker Willie Salomon, and has appeared on stage with Carlo Domeniconi, John Long and mandolin maestro (and Homespun instructor) Mike Marshall.
Rainer continues teaching at the Bamberg music school and lives in a village nearby.
