Tony Rice
The late Tony Rice has long been considered one of the greatest acoustic guitar flatpickers of all time. While best-known within the bluegrass music community, Tony’s artistry ranges from classic arrangements of folk and Appalachian mountain songs to his own “New Acoustic” blend of traditional bluegrass with contemporary jazz. His profound influence on an entire generation of acoustic musicians cannot be overstated. He has set the standard for dazzling technique, impeccable taste and beautiful tone.
Over the course of his career, he has played alongside J. D. Crowe and the New South, David Grisman (during the formation of "Dawg Music") and Jerry Garcia; led his own Tony Rice Unit; collaborated with Norman Blake, Ricky Skaggs and Peter Rowan; recorded with his brothers Wyatt, Ron, and Larry; and co-founded the famed Bluegrass Album Band. Tony was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Sadly, Tony passed on Christmas Day, 2020.
