Back in the mid-seventies Stefan Grossman invited me to record two albums for his Kicking Mule label, well known throughout the world for its acoustic guitar-oriented releases. I was very proud to be included in their roster of excellent musicians.
The resulting LPs, "Relax Your Mind" and "American Stranger" received excellent reviews and good sales, but they went out of print around the time CDs were starting to take over the vinyl marketplace. ((Folk Scene Magazing called American Stranger "An absolute gem...one of the best folk music albums released this year.")
In 1988, Shanachie Records released this compilation of the two LPs on a single CD, now called "Buckets of Songs," a play on Bob Dylan's song Buckets of Rain that appears on the recording. The songs are mostly solo voice and guitar, with occasional accompaniment from friends such as Pat Alger and Roly Salley.
Songs: Buckets of Rain, When I Was a Cowboy, Relax Your Mind, Worried Blues, Poor Howard, American Stranger, Gypsy Davey, Shebeg an Sheemor, Willie Moore, Dark Road Blues, Delia's Gone and When First Unto This Country.
