Rainer's Blues Picking School

Rainer Brunn

A Complete Method To Get You Started

Two hours video - includes 47 exercises with tab on pdf file
  • Code:DLRAIRS29
  • Skill Level:Near-Beginner (2)

This course is different than anything that we have offered before, and we know that all aspiring blues pickers will love it. Rainer Brunn, one of Homespun’s most popular instructors, has developed this course of study based on his love of traditional American blues guitar styles as well as his long experience as a guitar educator. We are proud to offer this method exclusively through Homespun.

When you download this course you’ll get TABs with forty-seven different exercises, each one illustrated by a corresponding video clip. Each clearly depicts a different aspect of alternate-thumb blues picking. Starting with the bare basics, by the time you’ve completed this course you’ll have mastered a huge number of techniques covering right hand picking, turnarounds, licks and some iconic blues tunes.

Rainer has brought his considerable knowledge of blues styles, along with his teaching skills, to create a course that will give you a total immersion into blues picking. We can’t recommend this highly enough.

Rainer writes:

"After having published some video tutorials with HOMESPUN, I thought it might be a humble tribute to the blues if I wrote a method on how to get your blues picking started. Happy Traum encouraged me and supported my work in his usual friendly and confident manner, and so I am excited to present “Rainer ́s Blues Picking School“ through HOMESPUN.

I hope this will contribute in keep this fantastic music alive and to knock over the hurdles that usually have to be jumped over whenever we begin to do something new."

I also love this style of blues playing & would really enjoy learning it. I’m also waiting to see if any improvements to the course are implemented before I invest.

I enjoy the exercise format as I can measure my improvement in a step by step, methodical fashion. Each lesson builds upon the other incrementally. Very elegant format

Thanks to this course, I'm now playing fingerstyle blues that I couldn't have even considered 6 months ago.

Rainer takes you through step by step, clearly and patiently.

I had to practice hard and my brain was on fire learning the patterns: I took two steps back, and then five steps forward. It was well worth it.

Thank you, Rainer. I'm slowly working through your other courses.

This course has a lot of exercises that are fun to work on. That's the good part. I cannot say that it has been worth the 30 dollars so far.

First, there is nothing in the way of instruction. If you buy this, you are buying sheet music for some helpful exercises, and nothing else. There are videos of Rainer playing the pieces (the videos are not shot from an especially helpful angle though), and you have to view them through the HomeSpun website, which is not a well-designed site.

Moreover, not a lot of thought went into the layout. Every few exercises, for example, are labeled "Nerd supplies." Why? Who knows. Are they part of the lesson? Maybe. Are they auxiliary materials? Who cares. Homespun isn't going to put that much thought into layout.

There are a few people I might recommend this to, but only if you see it on sale for under fifteen dollars. If you can afford to spend fifteen dollars and want some easy exercises to help you start playing acoustic blues guitar, then this is worth it. But at its current price, you can get a used paperback method book with a CD for less money.

This is a great course and well worth the money. I already see a lot of progress in my playing, halfway through the course. Thank you, Rainer, well done!
