Fingerpicking Classics by Tampa Red, Tommy Johnson and Jesse Fuller
Grab your guitar and dig into three great songs that will add cool licks and fingerpicking finesse to your blues repertoire. Adam Traum carefully takes you through the basics of each tune, then adds embellishments that will bring your playing to new levels.
The up-tempo Tampa Red tune, Can’t Get That Stuff No More, out of the key of C, is great fun to play. You’ll learn some terrific runs and fills that can easily be mastered and incorporated into similar songs.
The powerful Tommy Johnson song, Canned Heat Blues, in A, features a “Carter-style” picking rhythm, string snaps, a moving bass line; chord inversions up the neck; a unique descending run; and other features that will make it a stand-out in anyone’s playbook.
Adam’s lesson concludes with a rollicking tune called Hump In Your Back by the great Jesse Fuller. Best known for his San Francisco Bay Blues, Fuller had a vast catalog of terrific songs. This one features a walking bass part over the G and C chords, solos in first position and up the neck, and a great turnaround, among other features.
Build your setlist and learn some great new licks with these three “under-the-radar” blues classics.
